Your "Mount Bruce Experience" begins with a gentle one hour walk beside the Ruamahunga river. Waiting for you at our historical bush hut will be a delicious afternoon tea. You can then either fish for trout, swim, bush walk or just laze about and experience the tranquility. As the sun sets you can enjoy a glass of wine in our spa pool set amongst native bush.

The Mount Bruce Experience operates all year round.

With the Te Mara Walk you can enjoy lovely wet lands and a great low impact adventure.

Day1

There are two options here. You can start at lunch and walk through two river valleys along old logging tracks (unguided ) for 10km to the road end where there will be a cup of tea waiting, before wandering on for a further 1/2 an hour to the lodge.Or start later and have only a 1/2 hours walk to the Te Mara lodge (where you spend the night) located beside private wet lands (protected by QEII covenant).

Words cannot describe the stunning beauty and tranquility of the area, spend the late afternoon & evening walking the tracks around the area. 

Day2

A guide will accompany you past more wetlands while you are wandering over open farmland heading towards the foothills of the Tararua ranges. After an hour you will join up with one of the numerous old logging tracks that weave around this historical area, from which you will get some wonderful views over the Wairarapa. You will visit a former historic hunters hut,  then make your way down to the Wilderness Café where a welcome  cuppa awaits. Then on down to the cabins at Reef Hill where you will be treated to a hot spa, shower or cool swim.

Day 3

The last day gives you time to explore the surrounding area, have a late morning tea and a leisurely wander back to your  car (1 hour unguided) either through the river or over the hill, depending on the weather or a more strenuous 2 hour walk along the tops (great panoramic views of the Tararua Ranges).

Fully catered & guided (2nd day only).
Season: All year round excluding  June, July and August.

Fully catered is only $310 per person (4 or more). $340 per person under 4 persons.

The fee includes:

• Transport to the start of the track from the parking point.
• All meals and accommodation.

• Pack cartage available at $10 per pack if required.

Day 1
Meet and begin the walk at 1pm, walk through beautiful native bush for 3 hours, meet for afternoon tea at picnic area surrounded by bush, then continue on for another 40 mins to either the bush cabin or the lodge overlooking the wetlands (depends on number of people to where they stay the night)

Day 2
Begin at 9 am from bush cabin and 10.30am from lodge, both groups will meet for lunch overlooking a lovely valley and then continue on through the bush on old logging tracks to "the Wilderness Cafe" for afternoon tea.This is an old scrub cutters hut thats been restored.
All arrive at Reef Hill cabins for the night about 4 or 5 pm. This is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the river and spend some time in the spa with a glass of wine before dinner.

Day 3
Time to explore the surrounding area, have a late morning tea before walking for an hour back to the end of the track.
A 15 minute drive to a farm stay where its lunch on the deck and a chance for a welcome shower.
Then drive an hour to our famous local beach...Castlepoint, this place is amazing, so much to see here with some great walks.
Stay at a brand new house right on the beach with "a view to die for." Drinks on the deck before heading off to the local country pub for dinner.(10 mins away)

Day 4
A day to enjoy the stunning scenery and walks, be it up to the lighthouse or the famous "castle rock".
After lunch a 30 minute coastal drive, with spectacular scenery, to a wonderful retreat , where we will spend the late afternoon and evening enjoying their bush spa and country hospitality.

Day 5
A chance to catch your breath and enjoy a lazy breakfast on the deck before heading back to Masterton around midday.

Its then a 5 min drive before stopping for a relaxing lunch at the National Wildlife Centre.
Off to find some nice accom. for the night somewhere in our lovely Wairarapa countryside with time to enjoy our country hospitality.

Day 4
A nice sleep in before being picked up and transported to the Opaki area for a few hours of fun while exploring the local vineyards by bike. Most of the emphasis is placed on eating and wine tasting, so this is the time to kick back and enjoy the last of the beautiful Wairarapa, before heading home.
