Encouraging interaction with local cultures and close contact with the environment, going with Southern Exposure Tours is like travelling with a group of friends. Both have lived and worked in Latin America for over 6 years each and are fluent in Spanish. Silvana's background is Swiss and Austrian which is perfect for getting the most out of the European Alps hiking tour.
IS THIS ADVENTURE FOR ME? This adventure tour takes in the best that Buenos Aires, and Patagonia has to offer - Tango that will spark your passion for Latin music, a glimpse of the spectacular coast of Chile, the magic of the Moreno Glacier, mountain peaks and valleys so beautiful you'll feel like you're in a dream, and the Beagle Channel luring you to explore further. This is an active itinerary designed for the traveler who has 3 weeks to do and see as much as possible.
The trekking can be moderately challenging due to the unpredictability of the weather, especially the strong winds, so you need to be in reasonably good shape. Typically we do day hikes up to a maximum altitude of 1600m and 5 to 8hrs return to base camp, except for the Pehoe to Refugio Grey which is a one way hike of 3 to 4hrs. So how much you want to achieve on any given day is up to you. Accommodation is generally simple but comfortable. There may be some multi-share nights, with shared bathrooms in the national parks, though otherwise the hotels have private facilities.

WELCOME TO THE SOUTHERN EXPOSURE TOURS EXPERIENCE
IS THIS ADVENTURE FOR ME? Typically we use local transport which are the fast and comfortable trains. The hotels are small, cozy, family run B&B's and guesthouses with private facilities. There may be two home stay nights at the end of the tour (this depends on group size) and one multi-share night if we stay in a mountain hut in Austria, with shared bathrooms. So if you enjoy a unique itinerary with lots of local experiences, love stunning mountain scenery, tasting delicious autumn dishes and really getting to the essence of the countries you're visiting, then this is for you. Be prepared to deal with what the weather has in store, sun, rain, snow or wind. It's all part of the experience, though we choose autumn as it tends to be quite stable then.
This Europe tour is designed for the relatively fit and healthy and the trails are generally on hilly terrain. However there are plenty of options for longer, shorter or easier trails and the tour leader will decide on which trails to walk according to group ability. You will need to be able to walk for 3 to 5 hours on some days but will only be carrying your day pack with you. Trails in Europe are well defined and signposted, so if you wish to take an alternative option to the group, you may do so. This trip is suitable for all levels of recreational walkers and we stop often for rests, photos and refreshments at mountain restaurants.
IS THIS ADVENTURE FOR ME? This tour has a varied and interesting itinerary, with an in depth look at Peru's diverse cultures and geography. You will travel a on a variety of transport from motorized canoes to local buses and private mini vans. The buses are large comfortable coaches with reclining seats. There is moderate walking involved like you would do every day, though it can be a bit tougher with the altitude in areas like Cuzco, Puno and the Colca Canyon. Accommodation is simple but comfortable with en-suite rooms. The hotels are chosen for their safety, location, ambience and friendly staff. There may be a multi-share night (triple or quad) at the home stay on Lake Titicaca.
The Inca Trail trek can be challenging due to the high altitude and a moderate to good level of fitness is required for you to get the maximum enjoyment from the trek. Typically each day on the trail involves 6-8 hours of hiking over altitudes of up to 4200m (13776 ft). As all levels of fitness are catered for, you do have the option of spending extra nights in Cuzco then taking the train and to overnight in Aguas Calientes and meet up with hikers on the morning of day 10. This will all be pre arranged for you by S.E.T.
